Actually, Shakey, I was trying, clumsily, to make a serious point. God not revealing himself could be, and indeed is taken by many religious believers, as proof that he wants us to decide to follow and believe as an article of faith. He won't reveal himself explicitly because if he does faith, the basic requirement to gain entry to paradise, would no longer be required.

In fact, as you know, some take this argument so far as to suggest that he has planted false evidence suggesting that he doesn't exist specifically as a test of the faithful. They have to abandon reason completely when confronted with fossil evidence of evolution in order to stay true and faithful to the biblical word of god. It's an obvious test because the word of God is obviously true, so the evidence must be false and he is the only one who could have made it so convincing.

It's that kind of paranoid thinking that'll get you put in a loony bin, unless you're religious.

 

A movie called Golden Child with Eddie Murphy. He plays a sort of a private detective he tries to find runaway/kidnapped children. The devil pictured above steals this kid out of a temple in Tibet that is the bearer of compassion or something. If he is killed, compassion will die with him and the world will plunge in to darkness. But the devil can only kill him if the child eats human blood or, if that fails, with a special dagger. This really hot British chic who's supposed to be chinese of some sort but the producers couldn't find a chinese woman they actually liked, chooses him to find the little monk kid because he fits some sort of prophecy of the one who will find the child.

Oh trust me, I know all about that, I saw what you were doing and I appreciate the humor as well as the more serious undertones. However, for a god who made everything and is a part of everything, finding evidence of the existence of such a creature should be relatively simple. As you said, all the leaps they must take to justify that absence is a complete abandonment of reason. They start with the assumption that god is real based on no evidence and work backwards. They begin with no evidence, merely anecdotes, and find the parts that fit the conclusion they've already adopted, leaving out those bits that don't work.

They don't all leave out the bits that don't fit. Those are the tests. It's all part of the evidence for his existence.

Which, if you think about it, kinda defeats the object really, which was to require faith.

God isn't theorized to be a human being. Only Jesus was claimed to have lived 2000 years ago and to have died, then rose again after three days.
